WHY TAKE ACTION?
According to the 1990 US Census, 92% of American citizens were born right here in America. All Americans are Americans. Sadly, our government continues to divide Americans along racial lines. This division of a nation based on race doesn't advance democracy or equality, but instead reinforces the separation of our nation. Every time a member of the American public thinks of themselves based on racial heritage the ability to achieve an equal, "color blind" society is diminished. Throughout America's history our country has been divided by race. Many of Americas great leaders have said over and over that it's time for America to heal its self-inflicted, racial wounds. Generation after generation passes and our national wounds remain unhealed. Even if every American citizen were to take total responsibility for their own actions and beliefs, the division of our nation based on race will never end, these wounds will never heal, and Americans will never be truly equal, until our government no longer has a racial tally of the American population. Without a racial scorecard, our government will be forced to reevaluate how it views and treats the American population. Without our government dividing us by race it will be easier for all of us to stop dividing the nation based on race. We need to send a message to our government that the American citizens are all Americans. It's time to take action!

ACTION ONE
Take Action when filling out surveys, background information and census forms. Instead of checking the box we have been told is "appropriate" --i.e., "White/Caucasian", "Black/African-American", "Hispanic", "Latin", "Asian", etc. (Census 2000 offered dozens of choices) -- check the box marked "Other" and next to that write in "American." It's that simple. More than 15.8 million Americans Checked Other on Census 2000.

ACTION TWO
Take Action by spreading the word to your friends and family of how easy it is to advance Total American Equality. Word of Mouth remains the most effective method of changing the world.

ACTION THREE
Take Action by contacting your Congressional Representatives and insisting that every action they take advances Total American Equality. There are links to find your congressional representative on the Friendly Links and Resources page.

ACTION FOUR
Take Action by wearing a Check Other American T-Shirt. It's another great way to help spread the word and all profits go toward advancing Check Other Americans message of equality!
